Major General Bin Brik discusses with director of "Halo Trust" ways to enhance efforts of demining

Major General Ahmed Saeed bin Brik, Chairman of the National Assembly of the Southern Transitional Council, met in his office today, Sunday, Mr. Matthew Smith, Director of the British "Halo Trust" organization that deals with mines and explosives in the capital, Aden.

The meeting discussed ways to enhance the role, contributions and activities of the organization, which works in partnership with the Coordination Center for Removing Mines and Explosives, in which Major General Bin Brik got briefed on the nature of the organization’s work, and the humanitarian efforts it provides, besides the achievements it made in the capital, Aden, and the other areas related to removing mines and dealing with explosives of war, and starting a new phase of work in the demining process using specialized machinery and equipment.

Major General Bin Brik praised the organization's efforts and humanitarian work in removing mines and explosives that caused massive damage to lives and property, stressing the importance of removing what was left behind by the wars waged on the south by the anti-south forces of the Houthi militia, Brotherhood groups, and al-Qaeda and ISIS.

The Chairman of the National Assembly expressed the readiness and keenness of the Transitional Council to make the organization's work a success, and to provide the necessary facilities for it and to secure its staff, calling on the organization to pay attention to the process of training and qualification of local cadres to play its role in this direction.

For his part, Mr. Matthew Smith praised the cooperation of the Transitional Council leadership and its keenness to make the institution's work successful, noting that the organization seeks, by working with all parties, to reduce the risks of mines and explosive objects.
