The Southern Transitional Council (STC) has welcomed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s invitation to sponsor a Southern dialogue, affirming that the invitation represents a practical translation of the approach the STC has adopted since its establishment—one based on dialogue as the sole rational means of addressing political issues, foremost among them the cause of the people of the South and their right to restore their state.
The STC noted that, in pursuit of the cause of the people of the South, it has taken part in all dialogue tracks sponsored by the Kingdom and the Gulf Cooperation Council, beginning with the Riyadh Agreement in 2019, followed by the Riyadh Consultations in 2022, and culminating in its sponsorship of the comprehensive Southern dialogue that led to the adoption of the Southern National Charter in 2023—reflecting its enduring commitment to dialogue and political responsibility.
The STC views the Saudi invitation as consistent with the principles outlined in the political statement issued on Friday, 2 January 2026, and with its ongoing efforts to secure serious regional and international sponsorship for the cause of the people of the South, in a manner that ensures a just and sustainable resolution in line with the aspirations of the people of the South.
The STC reaffirmed its welcome—together with the Southern components that are partners and signatories to the Southern National Charter—of this dialogue, or any dialogue in support of the cause of the people of the South, expressing high appreciation for the invitation and considering it a genuine opportunity for serious dialogue that safeguards the future of the South, preserves its security and stability, and guarantees the fulfilment of the aspirations of its people.
The STC stressed that any serious dialogue must be based on recognition of the will of the people of the South, within a defined timeframe and under full international guarantees, affirming that a free and fair popular referendum for the people of the South is the decisive factor of any future political proposals or solutions.
