Major General Bin Brik praises role of International Mission of Red Cross in Aden the capital and neighboring governorates

Major General Ahmed Saeed bin Brik, Acting President of the Southern Transitional Council, Chairman of the National Assembly, praised the role of the International Mission of Red Cross and its unlimited support to alleviate the suffering of citizens during the period of the floods disaster, as well as the outbreak of Corona pandemic in the capital Aden and the neighboring governorates.

This came during his meeting on Wednesday at the headquarters of the Assembly, with the Head of the International Mission of the Red Cross in Yemen, Ms. Catherine Ritz, and the head of the Mission in the capital Aden, Mr. Abdul Rahman Ismail Issa.

Major General Bin Brik called for the need for the Mission to expand its activities towards the rest of the southern governorates, including Hadramout, Socotra, and Shabwa, which still suffering from massive influx of displaced people, as well as an accelerated spread of the new Corona virus (Covid-19),

In the meeting, which included Lawyer Niran Sooki, member of the Presidency of the Council, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly for Legal Affairs, and Dr. Salem Al-Shabhi, Head of Health and Environment Committee in the National Assembly, Major General Bin Brik presented an explanation of the role of the Southern Transitional Council, and the stages it has gone through since its establishment to the present day.

The Acting President of the Southern Transitional Council referred to the council’s role as an active partner with the Arab coalition in preserving the Arab project and with the international community in combating terrorism.

He also reviewed the problems of the deliberate service war that plagues the capital, Aden, and the rest of the liberated southern governorates in general, in terms of electricity, water and sanitation, non-payment of salaries, especially employees of the armed forces, security and retirees, and the suffering of the people, a large part of which has become below the poverty line and suffers from famine and the continuous influx of displaced people as a result of the war, and the instability of the currency and its continuous decline against foreign exchange, which exacerbates and increases the suffering of the people in that continuous rise in prices.

For her part, the Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross thanked Mrs. Ritz, Major General Bin Brik, for the warm reception, expressing her happiness at working in the capital Aden, and the South in particular, and Yemen in general, and her complete willingness to provide assistance and do her best in the service of the people and to continue the efforts of her colleagues who preceded her at work, noting, "We are trying as much as possible to meet the necessary needs that are needed by the capital, Aden and the rest of the governorates, in addition to focusing on the most important, urgent issues that can be implemented."

While the head of the mission of the International Committee of the Red Cross in the capital, Aden, Mr. Abdul Rahman Ismail Issa, expressed to the Acting President and all the staff working with him that helped and contributed greatly to facilitate and overcome all the difficulties of their work, especially with regard to the completion of the field hospital for the Corona pandemic, which became ready to work to receive infected cases.

Ismail reviewed the interventions that were implemented by them in the health, humanitarian and relief sector for the displaced in the capital, Aden and a number of governorates, noting that there are a number of proposals and plans to expand their work activity to include the governorates of Hadramout, Shabwa, Al Mahrah and others.

At the end of the meeting, Major General Ahmed Saeed stressed on the interest of the Southern Transitional Council and its provision of all assistance and facilities to international humanitarian and relief organizations, and United Nations organizations to work in the south in their various fields, especially with regard to the health and relief aspect, praising all the support and efforts of the Red Cross Mission in Aden, and its former manager and crew working with him.
