Al-Sokatri discusses with Director of Cleaning Fund ways to launch cleaning campaign in Aden

The Assistant Secretary-General of the Presidency of the Transitional Council, Major General Salem Abdullah Al-Sokatri, met on Sunday with the Director of the Cleaning Fund in Aden the capital, Eng. Qaid Rashid Anam, to discuss ways to coordinate efforts to help cleaners restore the civilized and bright face of the capital Aden and work to launch a popular voluntary campaign to clean streets, roads and neighborhoods from waste and dust left by the recent rains that hit Aden.

The meeting witnessed the presence of lawyer Niran Sooki, Vice-Chairman of the National Assembly, and Mr. Essam Abdo, Deputy Head of Local Leadership of Transitional Council in the capital Aden, and heads of local leaderships in the districts of Aden, in which the meeting reviewed efforts made by the Cleaning Fund to remove the gathered waste due the torrents of the rains in Aden the capital.

In the meeting, Rashid clarified that the workers of the Cleaning Fund moved from the first hours to remove the gathered waste and made double efforts in morning and evening through rotation system, but the recent rain waste exceeded their capabilities, stressing that the mechanisms are still not sufficient to face the recent challenges, indicating that the fund was supported by some equipment, machinery and pumps from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which is a generous gesture that would raise the capabilities of the fund and contribute to develop its competences.

For his part, the Assistant Secretary General appreciated the efforts made by the Fund's administration and its employees, noting that the Transitional Council directed its Relief and Humanitarian Affairs Committee and its field teams to assist the afflicted to alleviate their suffering.

Al-Sokatri warned that the damage caused by the rain is very large, and this situation requires coordination and concerted efforts, both between the Cleaning Fund and the relief and humanitarian committees in the districts, as well as the relevant institutions, civil organizations and volunteers, especially with the challenges created by the repercussions of the spread of the Corona virus worldwide.

The Assistant Secretary stressed on the importance of launching a wide popular cleaning campaign in which all parties participate actively, adding that everyone today is required to prove his affiliation with the city of Aden and show keenness to preserve the integrity of its environment and express solidarity to restore the city cleanliness and cultural face, especially in these circumstances in which there are risks of a pandemic that threatens humanity.

The meeting agreed to make an invitation to launch a wide popular voluntary cleaning campaign for all districts of the capital Aden and be in two phases. The first phase targets the most affected districts, Tawahi, Al-Mualla, Crater and Khormaksar, and the second phase will be in the other remaining districts of Mansoura and Sheikh Othman, Dar Saad, and Borika.

The meeting agreed on making an open invitation to all to participate actively, expressing their aspiration for wide participation by local authorities, public directors, civil organizations, federations, labor unions, youth, athletes, and women, especially since Aden is an incubator for all, with their various affiliations and diversity.

The meeting also called on the traffic police to participate in the campaign to organize the movement of vehicles, as well as the participation of Backup and Support forces, and media, writers, intellectuals and attendees of social media platforms to interact with the campaign and work to highlight the importance of hygiene in preventing epidemics and diseases, especially in these the exceptional circumstances the world is witnessing with the spread of the Corona pandemic.
