September 15, 2018
Her Excellency Mrs. Kathryn White
President and CEO, UN, Ottawa, Canada
Your Excellency,
On behalf of South Arabia Community in Ottawa, Canada, we gathered today Saturday September 15th, 2018, in front of the UN office in Ottawa , sending to your Excellency our greetings, appreciation and gratitude for all your efforts of UN in serving world peace and security, and helping bringing justice and sense of fairness to the oppressed worldwide. We wish you all every success in all your endeavors.
As you aware the third round of talks is failed in Geneva aimed at reaching a political solution to the current crisis in Yemen under the direction of your new international envoy, Mr. Griffiths, whom we sincerely wish every success in all his tasks.
Our people in all provinces of South of Yemen has come out to streets to protest against their poor living conditions which were created by the corruption and the miserable failure of the current Yemen’s “legitimate” government in managing the society and its inability to provide the necessary services for the people. In addition, our people rose up to declare their commitment to the legitimacy of their national cause and their right to full sovereignty over their territory according to the borders of May 21, 1990 (prior to the unification between Yemen Arab Republic and the People’s Democratic Republic of Yemen). Our people demonstrate on streets to condemn the attempts to marginalize the southern cause in the Geneva-III negotiations after President Hadi and the Houthis used their veto against the participation of the Southern Transitional Council, the representative of the people of the South of Yemen, in the consultations and negotiations run by the United Nations through its envoy for Yemen, Mr. Martin Griffiths.
Your Excellency,
We are South Yemenis living in Canada. Today we stand in front of the United Nations, Ottawa in solidarity with the Southern People's uprising. We express our support to the demands of our people for the immediate resignation of the current corrupt government in Yemen. We also reiterate to the right of our people in South of Yemen to freedom and self-determination. We are honored and feel obliged to convey the voice of the people of South of Yemen to you.
Your Excellency,
We are pleased to attach to this letter the recent statement of the leadership of the Southern Transitional Council which explains the position of the people of the South of Yemen regarding the peace talks on Yemen, which we fully support.
We are also pleased to reiterate our full support, as it is the case with the people in our original homeland (South of Yemen), to the Southern Transitional Council and all its declared positions. The Southern Transitional Council has earned its legitimacy by millions of Southern people who went to street on two occasions: the first was in May 4, 2017 when they issued “Aden Historical Declaration” and mandated Mr. Aidrous Al-Zobeidi to establish the Southern Transitional Council which was announced in May 11, 2017; and the second one-million people demonstration took place on May 21, 2017 to express the Southern people’s full support to the establishment of the Southern Transitional Council and its leadership, and mandated the leadership of the Council to represent the South nationally, regionally, and internationally.
Today, our people are renewing their support to the Southern Transitional Council through various demonstrations in all provinces of South of Yemen while declaring their civil disobedience to protest against the current government and demanding its resignation. Our people are determined to attain the political objectives of regaining their national sovereignty and establishing their independent and free State.
We avail ourselves of this opportunity to renew to your Excellency the highest of our respect and consideration.
Community of Southern Arabia , Ottawa, Canada.
