The governorate of the Socotra archipelago witnessed on Sunday a formal and artistic ceremony at the Kuwait Educational Complex hall in downtown Hadibu to celebrate the 58th anniversary of the National Independence Day, 30 November, under the patronage of President Aidarous Al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC).
The event, organised by the local leadership executive body (LLEB) of the STC and the local authority in Socotra under the slogan "One hand engaged in protection while the other is dedicated to construction... Independence is Renewed", was marked by authentic patriotic fervour, reflecting the archipelago's deep connection to the struggle and sacrifices of the people of South Arabia, and was attended by a large number of officials and a popular gathering.
In his address, STC Presidium Member and Governor of Socotra, Eng. Rafat Al-Thaqali, emphasised the importance of commemorating this national occasion, which enshrined the Southern people's will and sacrifices for the sake of freedom and dignity and would remain a beacon for future generations, renewing the pledge of allegiance to President Al-Zubaidi and to the choice of the people of South Arabia to continue their path towards the desired future.
During the ceremony, Governor Al-Thaqali congratulated the people of Socotra who had graduated from military and security colleges and training courses, praising the unwavering support provided by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in various fields, which he said had contributed to development and stability in the archipelago.
For his part, the Head of the STC's Executive Body in Socotra, Saeed Omar Bin Qublan, stated that the 58th independence anniversary represents a continuation of the ultimate sacrifices of the blessed martyrs and heroes who have been struggling for South Arabia and its dignity. He reiterated that the Transitional Council is proceeding with confidence towards achieving a "second independence" and restoring the state of South Arabia.
Bin Qublan lauded President Al-Zubaidi's patronage of development and military projects, including the energy conference and the graduation of military batches, which enhance the readiness of the Southern Armed Forces. He also expressed the appreciation of the people of Socotra for the ongoing fraternal support from the UAE to the people of South Arabia.
The ceremony featured artistic and poetic segments, as well as traditional folk songs performed by artists and children, highlighting the grandeur of the occasion and its deep resonance with the people of Socotra, who expressed their pride in the national identity.
