STC Secretary-General Meets with UN Women Representative and Affirms Council's Support for Empowerment of Southern Women

Advisor Mohammed Al-Sahimi, representative of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) to the United Kingdom, has held a series of meetings with several European Union institutions, including the European Parliament and the European Commission. The meetings, part of a two-day official visit to the Belgian capital, Brussels, also included talks with a number of research centres and European diplomats.
During the meetings, Mr Al-Sahimi discussed enhancing communication channels with the European side and briefing partners on the latest developments in the South and the country as a whole and highlighted the Transitional Council's role in the political process and the government, while asserting the importance of supporting efforts aimed at strengthening stability and improving public services in the governorates of the South.
Al-Sahimi discussed escalating security challenges, including the threats posed by the terrorist Houthi militia, extremist groups, and smuggling networks, and the pivotal role of the Southern Armed Forces in combating terrorism and safeguarding maritime shipping lanes.
He stressed the necessity of adopting a realistic approach to dealing with the situation in Yemen and supporting a new political path based on facts on the ground, and also focused on enhancing technical and economic cooperation between European institutions and governmental authorities in the South.
