STC Secretary-General Meets with UN Women Representative and Affirms Council's Support for Empowerment of Southern Women

The Secretary-General of the General Secretariat of the Presidium of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), Mr. Abdul Rahman Jalal Shaher Al-Subaihi, met today, Wednesday, with Ms. Dina Zorba, the Representative of UN Women in Iraq and Yemen, to discuss promoting the partnership and support issues concerning Southern women.

In the meeting, which was attended by lawyer Niran Souqi, head of the Women and Children body in the General Secretariat, Ms. Zorba affirmed the strength of the relationship with the STC and UN Women's commitment to giving Southern women a greater role in future programs and projects. She provided a detailed explanation of the nature of UN Women's work and its programs aimed at supporting women's capacities in various fields.

For his part, the Secretary-General lauded the significant role undertaken by UN Women, reaffirming that the Transitional Council seeks to restore Southern women to the pioneering role they were known for prior to 1990, after this role was systematically marginalized in subsequent stages.

Al-Subaihi expressed his hope that the agency's activities would extend to include various governorates of the South, which would enhance women's presence and restore their well-deserved status.
