Al-Muharrami Discusses Bolstering Maritime Security and Safeguarding Shipping Lanes with Coast Guard Head

Mr. Abdul Rahman Abu Zara'a Al-Muharrami, Deputy President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), met on Sunday with Major General Khaled Al-Qumali, Head of the Coast Guard Forces, to discuss strengthening maritime security and safeguarding vital shipping lanes.

During the meeting, Mr. Al-Muharrami received a detailed briefing on operational challenges facing the Coast Guard, the need for enhanced capabilities and personnel training to carry out their national tasks, and current readiness levels to protect the coastline and territorial waters.

Al-Miharrami emphasized the pivotal role of the Coast Guard in safeguarding ports and sea lanes, and that their support directly contributes to the stability of international maritime navigation, stressing the need to raise the security and technical readiness of the Coast Guard to face various threats, including the smuggling of Iranian weapons to the Houthi militia, drug smuggling, piracy, and the activities of terrorist groups.

The meeting discussed the importance of strengthening joint regional and international coordination to address maritime threats and developing a comprehensive strategy to enhance security in vital ports and coordinate efforts between coast guard command and streamlining port management across liberated governorates.

For his part, Maj. Gen. Al-Qumali appreciated the interest of the STC Deputy President and PLC Vice Chairman Abdulrahman Al-Muharrami and his keenness to closely review the conditions of the authority, stressing the commitment of the Coast Guard to perform its national duties and raise the maximum level of readiness to secure coastlines.
