STC Secretariat Reviews Key Recent Developments in National Landscape of the South

The General Secretariat of the Presidium of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) held its regular meeting today, Monday, at its headquarters in the capital, Aden, chaired by Mr. Mohammed Ahmed Haidara al-Shaqqi, Assistant Secretary-General of the Secretariat for Governorates Affairs.

During the meeting, the Secretariat reviewed the most prominent recent developments in the national landscape of the South, focusing on the popular movements rejecting the deteriorating economic and service conditions. It expressed full support for the right to peaceful demonstrations and denounced the declining public services and living conditions across the governorates of the South.

While affirming its support for legitimate demands aimed at addressing public service deficiencies, the Secretariat firmly rejected any attempts to divert these protests from their primary objectives. It also condemned acts of violence against security personnel and the exploitation of protests for political ends contrary to the aspirations of the people of the South.

Additionally, the meeting discussed a report presented by the Media and Culture Department on the state of culture in the governorates of the South and strategies for its advancement. The report addressed issues such as institutional neglect, the lack of relevant legislation, and the need for public awareness regarding heritage preservation. It also outlined obstacles impeding cultural progress and proposed specific and general recommendations to enhance cultural activities throughout the South.

Finally, the secretariat touched on a number of activities of the secretariat departments for the past week, in addition to reviewing and ratifying the minutes of the previous meeting.
