Mr. Ali Abdullah Al-Kathiri, Acting President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and President of the National Assembly, met today, Wednesday, in his office with Mr. Bert Scott, Office Director of the UN Special Envoy in the capital, Aden.
At the beginning of the meeting, which was attended by Dr. Najeeb Qayid Fare'a, Head of the Department of International Organizations and Human Rights at the Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Authority (FEAA) of the STC, Mr. Al-Kathiri warmly welcomed Mr. Scott and praised the efforts exerted by the UN Envoy’s Office to end the war and reach solutions and opportunities that open new horizons for bringing about a just and lasting peace.
Al-Kathiri was briefed by Mr. Scott on the concerted efforts being made by the United Nations, regional, and international partners to develop a new negotiation strategy regarding the roadmap and its executive mechanisms. In addition to the ongoing efforts by the Envoy’s Office to encourage initiatives for ambassadors to resume their diplomatic tasks from the capital, Aden, as well as the progress achieved in relocating the headquarters of international organizations and missions to the capital, Aden, to meet the requirements for urgent humanitarian response and advancing comprehensive, sustainable development.
The meeting also discussed the repercussions of designating the Houthi militia as a terrorist organization, particularly in light of its continued escalation on various battle fronts and its targeting of maritime navigation routes in the Red Sea, the Bab al-Mandab Strait, and the Gulf of Aden, and the impact of these acts on the political process and economic stability.
Al-Kathiri stressed the urgent need to crystallize immediate ideas and solutions to end the war and address the worsening economic situation, highlighting the importance of creating conditions conducive to a comprehensive political process aimed at resolving all outstanding issues, with a focus on the central cause of the South as the key issue, and reaffirmed that the STC is fully prepared to exert maximum efforts and engage positively and constructively with all initiatives submitted by the UN Envoy’s Office in this regard.
