Mr. Ali Abdullah Al-Kathiri, Acting President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Chairman of the National Assembly, received on Thursday the deputy country director of the World Food Programme (WFP), Mr. Siemon Hollema.
In the beginning of the meeting, which was attended by Dr. Najeeb Qayid Fare'a, Head of the Department of International Organizations and Human Rights at the Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Authority (FEAA) of the STC, Mr. Al-Kathiri welcomed the deputy director of the WFP, expressing his appreciation for the WFP delegation's visit and their briefing on the programme's ongoing efforts and interventions across the governorates of the South and liberated areas, and discussions focused on strengthening joint cooperation with the WFP.
Al-Kathiri praised the vital role played by the WFP through its Livelihoods Improvement Programme, highlighting the need to increase these projects for the most needy groups in light of the growing poverty indicators and the deteriorating living and economic situation in the country.
The acting president of the STC has reiterated the readiness of the capital, Aden, to welcome the main offices of international organizations and missions, foremost among them the WFP, and the council's commitment to providing all required facilities and creating suitable conditions for them, enabling them to effectively carry out their tasks and operations.
For his part, Mr. Hollena expressed his thanks and appreciation for the warm reception, praising all facilities provided by the STC's leadership to the WFP staff and its commitment to ensure that the programme achieves its humanitarian goals in the governorates of the South.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Al-Rashid Hammad, the WFP senior policy official, and Dr. Jamal Al-Jamali, the WFP government and public relations officer.
