Al-Kathiri Gets Briefed on Plans and Projects of Agriculture and Fisheries Ministry for 2025

Mr. Ali Abdullah Al-Kathiri, Acting President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Chairman of the National Assembly, met on Monday with the Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Fisheries, Major General Salem Abdullah Al-Soqatri.

During the meeting, Mr. Al-Kathiri was briefed on the ministry's workflow and its offices in the governorates of the South and liberated areas and the exerted efforts to implement various agricultural and fisheries projects, with the aim of boosting the national economy, ensuring water and food security, creating new job opportunities, and fostering effective partnerships and conducting agreements with countries, specialized organizations, and donors.

Al-Kathiri listened to the Ministry’s extensive international engagements, including the biodiversity Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention (COP16) to Combat Desertification, which took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and the event on accelerating climate finance for resilient agrifood systems in fragile and conflict-affected countries held in Azerbaijan, and the participation in the 'World Without Hunger' conference in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where several international agreements were signed to boost investment in agriculture and fisheries, address climate change, achieve sustainable development, and improve livelihoods for rural populations.

At the end of the meeting, the minister al-Soqatri provided a brief overview of the ministry's development plans and strategic projects for the upcoming year, 2025, highlighting the issuance of executive decisions related to these projects and the resolution of challenges hindering their implementation, which are expected to significantly improve environmental and living conditions, boost food security, and promote sustainable development in both the agricultural and fisheries sectors.
