The Administrative Body of the National Assembly of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) held its regular meeting on Wednesday, headed by Mr. Ali Abdullah Al-Kathiri, Chairman of the National Assembly and Acting President of the STC.
The meeting, which was attended by Mr. Issam Abdo Ali, Deputy Chairman of the Assembly, focused on the deteriorating economic and public services conditions in the South and the successive escalating complexities aimed at tightening the noose around our people in an attempt to force them to accept options that do not align with their aspirations and fail to recognize the huge ultimate sacrifices they have been making for over three decades.
In its meeting, the body reiterated its categorical rejection of the starvation policy being imposed on the people and the neglect of their pressing issues, urging the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) and the government to address the collapsing economy with utmost seriousness and to swiftly find urgent solutions to alleviate the suffering of our people, which has now reached a breaking point.
During the meeting, Mr. Al-Kathiri gave a briefing about the directives issued by President Al-Zubaidi to form field teams for raising political awareness and the surveying and assessing the organizational performance of the STC's bodies in the governorates of the South. The nature of the teams' work and the procedures undertaken were detailed, highlighting their role in improving and correcting the organizational performance of the council's bodies, as well as conducting field visits to evaluate citizens' conditions and find out about their needs at all levels.
In another context, the body marked the 57th anniversary of the glorious Independence Day on November 30th, highlighting it as a national occasion of the South that inspires us to draw on our people's history and the unrelenting struggles of our ancestors and calls for increased steadfastness until we achieve the aspirations of our people of the South in gaining their independence and rebuilding their state.
At the end of its meeting, the body reviewed a special report on the religious institutes and centers spread across the governorates of the South, presented by the Assembly's Thought and Guidance Committee. The meeting also discussed a report submitted by several committees of the Assembly regarding the encroachment on agricultural lands in the Qariat area of Abyan Governorate and attempts to convert these lands into residential plots to settle displaced persons and construct a religious center.
