Al-Kathiri Reviews Projects and Strategic Plans in Agricultural and Fisheries Sectors

 

Mr. Ali Abdullah Al-Kathiri, Acting President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Chairman of the National Assembly, met on Tuesday with the Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Fisheries, Major General Salem Abdullah Al-Soqatri.

Mr. Al-Kathiri was briefed by the minister on the level of implementation of projects, strategic plans, and development programs in the agricultural and fisheries sectors in the governorates of the South and the liberated areas in general, including the rehabilitation project of the fishing port in the capital Aden, port quay and related infrastructure, the ongoing work to lift the derelict vessels in the vicinity of the port, rehabilitation fish landing sites, and the measures taken by the ministry on unlicensed fish processing and grinding plants and overfishing.

Furthermore, the Acting President of the STC listened to an overall explanation on the level of work progress in the construction of the strategic Hassan Dam, which is being funded by our brothers in the United Arab Emirates, highlighting the ministry's achievements in the agricultural sector, including the re-operating of agricultural research institutions in various governorates, the establishment of a regional locust control center, and the launch of a project to combat the red palm weevil in agricultural areas.

During the meeting, the minister Al-Soqatri reviewed the outcomes of his participation in the International Fishing Industry Forum and  the Global Fishery Forum & Seafood Expo Russia, as well as the signing of a bilateral memorandum of understanding with the head of the Russian Federal Agency for Fisheries, focusing on fisheries, exchange of expertise, and conducting research in Russian institutes and universities to develop fisheries in the country.
