The STC Secretary-General Holds Talks with Deputy UN Envoy on Developments in the Political Process and Economic File

Mr. Fadhl Mohammed Al-Gaadi, Secretary-General of the General Secretariat of the Presidium of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), held discussions today, Monday, at the headquarters of the STC's Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Authority (FAEA) in the capital, Aden, with Mr. Sarhad Fatah, Deputy Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General to Yemen, and his accompanying delegation.

The discussions, which were held in the presence of Dr. Saleh Al-Haj, Director of the FAEA, touched on the latest developments on the internal level, where Al-Gaadi called for the necessity to address the political and economic issues and files in the country, at the forefront of which is the cause of the people of the South.

The meeting reviewed the repercussions of the deteriorating economic situation, the unilateral measures taken by the Houthi militia that have contributed to exacerbating the economic and living situation, as well as the disastrous results of targeting oil export ports and international navigation in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, and the ongoing attacks launched by the Houthi militia on various fronts of the South in Bayhan, Al-Dhale'a, Yafe'a, Abyan, and Karsh, and what these attacks represent in undermining regional and international security and peace.

Mr. Al-Gaadi expressed the aspiration of the STC for the engagement of international efforts and endeavors with all political, economic, and military conditions, reiterating the STC's adherence to putting a special negotiating framework to the cause of the people of the South during the comprehensive political process.

Al-Gaadi referred to the efforts undertaken by the STC in combating terrorism and supporting UN and regional efforts to end the war and bring about peace, noting at the same time the continued terrorist Houthi militia in exacerbating the conditions in the governorates of the South economically, militarily, and security-wise, and warning of repeated attempts to appease the Houthi militia, which will only lead to more rounds of war and the fueling of conflicts.

In turn, Mr. Fatah gave a brief overview of the efforts and endeavors of the UN mediation and the movements made by the UN Special Envoy to the countries of the region, the member states of the UN Security Council, international bodies, and all parties.

Mr. Fatah appreciated the support of the STC for the efforts of the political process led by the UN Envoy, reiterating the fundamentality of the cause of the South within the roadmap program and the necessity to address it with the participation of the STC during the course of the political process.

The meeting was attended on behalf of the STC by the Deputy Head of the Political Commission, Dr. Khaled Bamdhaf, the Deputy Director of the FAEA, Mr. Anis Al-Sharafi, and the Member of the Economic and Service Authority, Dr. Jaafar Moneim, and the Head of the International Organizations Department at the FAEA, Dr. Najeeb Qaid, and from the UN delegation: Special Economic Advisor Dirk-Jan Omtzigt, Director of the Office of the Envoy in the capital, Aden, Edward Daniel Jackson, Advisor in Economic Affairs, Anthony Biswell, and the official in the Political Affairs Department, Hadeel Samir.
