The General Secretariat of the Presidium of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) held its periodic meeting on Wednesday in the capital, Aden, chaired by Mr. Fadhl Mohammed Al-Gaadi, member of the STC's Presidium and Secretary-General of the General Secretariat.
The General Secretariat lauded the positive role of the local leadership executive bodies (LLEBs) of the STC in the governorates of “Hadhramaut, Almahra, and Socotra” in mitigating the repercussions of the tropical condition of cyclone “Tej” that recently struck these governorates through rapid response and dealing with the disaster resulting from the cyclonic storm in light of the current dire circumstances that the country is going through.
The Secretariat stood before the systematic process being practiced to obstruct all efforts to re-operate Aden Refinery and the negative impacts of its stoppage on the local economy and the country’s increasing dependence on importing fuel, which led to a waste of hard currency, a decline in the exchange rate of the local currency, and exorbitant food prices. The Secretariat called on the government to intervene and assume its responsibility to preserve and re-operate the refinery.
The meeting reviewed a report submitted by the Economic and Services Department on the economic scene in the governorates of the South, which focused on the most prominent developments in economic affairs, including the persistent electricity crisis in the capital, Aden, as well as the collapse of the local currency against the foreign currency.
The meeting touched on the weekly activity report of the departments of the Secretariat over the past week, as well as reviewing and approving the minutes of the previous meeting.
