Mr. Salem Thabet Al-Awlaqi, head of the National Southern Media Authority (NSMA) assisting the Presidium of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), met today, Wednesday, at NSMA's headquarters in the capital, Aden, with a number of correspondents of Arab and international channels, agencies, and newspapers, during which the political developments in the South, the path of the peace process, and the role of the media at this stage were discussed.
In the meeting, which was attended by Mr. Mukhtar Al-Yafe'y, Deputy Head of NSMA, Mr. Al-Awlaqi stressed that the southern national equation at this critical stage requires the broad national alignment of the southern forces, indicating that there are positive results in the path of continuing the southern national dialogue with a number of southern actors.
Al-Awlaki called on journalists, media members, media professionals, and activists to take part in creating a sound media discourse that emphasizes a just, comprehensive, and sustainable peace and to warn against those steps taken by the Houthi militia to formulate a fragile peace that lays the foundation for future cycles of violence, asserting that the cause of the people of the South cannot be bypassed.
Al-Awlaki called on correspondents in the capital, Aden, to support the efforts of the southern security services and military forces in confronting extremism and terrorism, maintaining stability, and highlighting dire economic and humanitarian issues.
To the end of the meeting, the head of NSAM listened to a range of opinions and suggestions, which focused on improving the communication mechanism, providing information, and having official spokesmen to create the best conditions for formulating a sound media discourse and coverage both for the local and global community.
