Head of Women's Commission Discusses Aspects of Cooperation with NDI

The head of the Women's Commission of the Presidium of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), Dr. Suhair Ali Ahmed, met on Monday in her office in the capital, Aden, with the resident senior director of the American National Democratic Institute (NDI) in Yemen, Ms. Kenza Aqerti.

The meeting discussed aspects of cooperation and coordination between the Commission and the NDI and worked to enhance partnerships and implement plans and programs to empower women and promote their political roles.

Dr. Suhair focused on the importance of women's political participation, working to develop their experience in political work and their participation in decision-making and community service, in addition to the situation of women in the South as a result of the wars of militias and tribal and religious organizations of the North against the South in 1994 and 2015.

Suhair reiterated the STC's support for women to regain their well-esteemed status as before the unification with the North through strategic plans to gain their rights and participation in political decision-making.

In turn, Ms. Aqerti reviewed the plans and programs that had been conducted by the NDI, affirming the institute's support for whatever contributes to empowering women and enhancing their role in political participation and decision-making.

The meeting was attended by the director of the Institute’s programs in Yemen, Mr. Ali Al-Omari, and from the side of the Women’s Commission: deputy head of the Commission, Dr. Tamani Ali Saif, and Ms. Ibtisam Abdullah Saleh, the commission’s secretary.
