Niran Souqi Meets with ICRC Deputy Protection Coordinator
Lawyer Niran Souqi, head of the Humanitarian Aid and Relief Commission (HARC) of the Presidium of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), met on Monday in the capital, Aden, with Ms. Valeria Gemello, deputy coordinator of the Protection Section at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
At the beginning of the meeting, Lawyer Souqi welcomed Ms. Gemello, asserting that the STC is looking ahead to continuing joint cooperation with the ICRC in developing cooperation, coordination, and interventions in the humanitarian field and is keen to facilitate the work of the ICRC and ease any obstacles facing its work in a way that projects humanitarian mission.
In turn, Ms. Gemello reviewed the activities of the ICRC in the field of humanitarian work, training, and qualification in international humanitarian law, and in particular all that has been and is being done in terms of activities in prisoner exchanges and other protection activities and the readiness of the ICRC to facilitate any future exchanges after agreement by the parties to the conflict.
