The Presidium of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) held its periodic meeting on Tuesday, chaired by Mr. Ahmed Hamed Lamlas, the Secretary General of the Presidium of the STC, Minister of State, and Governor of the Capital, Aden.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Presidium listened to the report submitted by the Supreme Economic Committee (SEC) of the STC on the latest economic developments on the national landscape, calling on the power-sharing government to work hard to eradicate corruption, preserve oil resources, and maintain the ownership of government companies in this sector, and to expeditiously transfer all the headquarters to the capital, Aden.
The Presidium also focused on corruption in scholarships at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research during the past years and what followed of the popular reaction that occurred in closing the headquarters of the ministry.
The Presidium affirmed its rejection of all illegal reactions and at the same time denounced the government’s failure to seriously take firm measures against those corrupted in this ministry and other facilities, to hold them accountable for these actions that caused the occurrence of such acts, and to avoid reactions resulting from the inaction of the prime ministry to hold perpetrators accountable.
The Presidium called on the government to oblige the Minister of Interior to perform his work at the headquarters of the Ministry in the capital, Aden, and to urge him to issue permits for security companies based in Sana’a to work from the capital, Aden, in light of the decrees issued by the Presidential Leadership Council (STC) and the government to transfer the headquarters of all companies and agencies to the capital, Aden.
The Presidium discussed the report of the Decision Making Support Center and the latest developments in the general situation, foremost of which is the situation in the Halmeen district in Lahj governorate, and approved the formation of a fact-finding committee to investigate the circumstances of the events that the district recently witnessed and called on those concerned to remain calm and the committee to quickly complete its tasks and take legal measures in light of the findings.
In its meeting, the Presidium discussed the main orientations of the STC's work plan for the year 2023, in addition to reviewing several topics and issues related to the STC's bodies and taking the appropriate measures.
