The Deputy Secretary-General of the Presidency of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), Mr. Fadl Al-Jaadi, received, at the headquarters of the Council in the capital, Aden, on Saturday, Ms. Kjersti Tromsdal, the special envoy of the Kingdom of Norway to Yemen.
The meeting was attended by lawyer Niran Sooki, member of the Presidency of the Council, Vice-Chairman of the National Assembly, in which Al-Jaadi reviewed the political, economic, and military developments throughout the governorates of the South, and efforts to complete the implementation of the Riyadh Agreement and the political process to end the conflict in the region.
The meeting touched on the humanitarian situation in the South and what the citizens suffer from as a result of the policy of fabricated aggravation and systematic collective punishment which parties in the legitimacy stand behind it, in this regard, the Deputy Secretary-General called on regional and international partners to take a firm stance that would put an end to those punitive policies, in order to ensure the neutralization of services away from political conflict.
The meeting dealt with the importance of involving women in the peace-making process and enhancing their participation in decision-making circles, as this was confirmed by lawyer Niran Sooki, who reviewed in the meeting the role of southern women and their active presence in various areas of life, both in the former southern state, or throughout the stages of the southern revolution, leading to its active participation and holding leadership positions in the Presidency of the Transitional Council and its bodies, stressing that the South has a renewed heritage in social justice and women's rights, including political rights.
For her part, Ms. Tromsdal expressed her happiness to visit the capital, Aden, at the beginning of her mission as a special envoy of the Kingdom of Norway to Yemen, stressing her country's keenness to support the efforts of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to reach a comprehensive peace process in Yemen, stressing the need to enhance opportunities for women’s participation in making peace and security process and enabling them to participate in the political process with fair representation.
The meeting was attended by Eng. Mohammed Al-Abadi, Deputy Head of the General Directorate for Foreign Affairs of the Southern Transitional Council, and Ali Al-Hadayani, Press Secretary to the President of the Transitional Council, Rasha bin Ataf, member of the General Directorate for Foreign Affairs, and from the Norwegian side, Ms. Sejni Jilin, Deputy Head of Mission, and Ms. Monica Tosen, Senior Adviser in the Department of Humanitarian Affairs in the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
