Dr. Nasser Al-Khubaji, member of the Presidency of the Southern Transitional Council, Head of the Negotiations Affairs Unit, Head of the Transitional Team in the Joint Committee to follow up the procedures of implementing the Riyadh Agreement, met with the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Martin Griffiths, and his deputy, Mr. Moeen Shreim, in the presence of members of the Presidency of the Southern Transitional Council, Ali Al-Kathiri, Adnan Al-Kaf, and Amr Al-Beedh.
Dr. Nasser Al-Khubaji reviewed the progress of the implementation of the Riyadh Agreement, and the commitment of the Southern Transitional Council to implement the full terms of the agreement in accordance with its hierarchy and timeline.
Al-Khubaji confirmed that the Southern Transitional Council implemented from its side its military withdrawals, delivery of heavy weapons, and the release of detainees, in addition to securing the government in Aden, while we are still waiting for government forces to implement its withdrawals from Abyan and Shabwa, and appointing governor and director of Aden and its security, and the release of the detainee Mohammad Ahmad al-Faidhi, who is still in government prisons.
Al-Khubaji pointed out that the Riyadh agreement states the Transitional Council to be in the negotiating team to be formed, following the formation of the new government, in light of the its participation as representative of the southern issue and a bearer of the southern independence project, stressing on the need for prior consultation on the mechanism of forming the negotiating delegation to ensure the provision of adequate guarantees to solve the southern issue.
For his part, Mr. Martin Griffiths confirmed that he hopes to accelerate the implementation of the terms of the Riyadh Agreement and the formation of the new government and then reach the formation of the negotiating delegation to ensure the start of negotiations for the comprehensive political process.
