Major General Bin Brik Pays Visit to Al-Mehdhar Museum and Ayash Fort in Al-Shihr District


Major General Ahmed Saeed bin Brik, Vice President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Chairman of the National Assembly, paid an inspection tour of the ancient Al-Shihr district in Hadramout Governorate.

Major General Bin Brik visited the cultural museum of the late great lyricist Hussein Abu Bakr Al-Mehdhar, where he was received by the deputy governor of Hadhramout governorate, Eng. Amin Barzeeq, the Director General of the district, Mr. Adel Ba'okaba, and the Director General of the Culture Bureau, Mr. Abdo Salem Kalawash, in addition to a number of social and political figures, poets, and artists.

Bin Brik took a round in the corridors of the museum and watched a video recording about the history of the late poet Al-Mehdhar, who made a major shift not only in Hadrami art but also in the Gulf and Arabic song in general.

The Vice President of the STC praised the interest of the local authority and the Culture Bureau in preserving the literary and artistic heritage of the poet Al-Mehdhar in particular and the poets, writers, and artists of the city of Al-Shihr in general, stressing that Al-Shihr was and still is a pioneer in poetry, singing, literature, and popular heritage.

After that, Major General Bin Brik strolled around Ayash Fort, which witnessed the national celebrations of the 500th anniversary of defending the city against the Portuguese invasion in the year 1523, where he toured the fort and looked at the model documenting the historical city of Al-Shihr and its great and ancient historical heritage.

The Vice President of the STC was accompanied by businessman Zaki Al-Hadrami, Mr. Muhammad Omar bin Sumaida, former Director General of the Ministry of Transport office, Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed Nasser bin Sumaida, Office Head of the Chairman of the Assembly, Mr. Ahmed Qassem, Mr. Husam Ashour, press secretary of the Chairman of the Assembly, and Egyptian journalist Wala'a Omran, among others.
