President Zubaidi Discusses with US Ambassador Developments in Political Process and Peace Endeavors

President Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Vice-Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), met via video call on Wednesday with Mr. Steven H. Fagin, U.S. Ambassador to Yemen.

The meeting discussed the latest developments in the political process in the country, ways to end the war and establish a lasting peace in the entire region, and the risks that threaten regional and international endeavors to cease the war in light of the continued Houthi escalation, the latest of which was the targeting of the convoy of the Minister of Defence, the commander of the coalition forces, and the governor of Taiz by bombed drones in the area of Al-Kadha in the governorate of Taiz earlier this week, in addition to the military escalation and continued mobilization on all the frontlines in northern Lahj, Al-Dhalea, Harib, and Markha in Shabwa governorate.

In this context, President Al-Zubaidi reaffirmed his position in support of peace efforts, the political process led by the UN special envoy to Yemen, and the exerted efforts by the American special envoy to launch a comprehensive peace process, affirming the readiness of the STC to engage in the political process as a pivotal party representing the people of the South and their just cause in a way that meets the aspirations of the southern people since it is the key to resolving all issues in the entire region.

The meeting touched on developments in the humanitarian and economic situation and the challenges facing the PLC and the power-sharing government in providing public services to citizens in light of the continued halt to the oil exporting process caused by the Houthi attacks on oil facilities in the governorates of Shabwa and Hadramout.

In this respect, President Al-Zubaidi expressed his thanks for the support of the US government in the emergency humanitarian response and its assistance to the government in the fields of security and boosting economic empowerment.

For his part, the US Ambassador reiterated his country's condemnation of the new Houthi escalation on various frontlines and the targeting of the Minister of Defense in the power-sharing government, stressing his country's support for the PLC to enable it to perform the entrusted duties and tasks up to the mark.
