Al-Sharafi Receives UN Envoy's Office Director

The head of the Political Body of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), Mr. Anis Al-Sharafi, received in the capital Aden on Monday Mr. Bert Scott, the director of the UN special envoy's office, and Mr. Hadeel Samir, the head of the political section to review the latest political, military, and economic developments in the country.

During the meeting, Mr. Scott presented an overview of the UN envoy's efforts and movements to revive the political process in the country, explaining that the next phase requires a balanced handling of military and economic aspects to pave the way for an environment conducive to any political progress.

For his part, the head of the Political Body presented a comprehensive overview of the rapid developments in Hadhramaut, Al-Mahra, and the rest of the governorates of the South Arabia, and affirmed that the ongoing measures come in response to widespread popular demands and stem from the Council's responsibility to strengthen security, dry up smuggling sources, and confront destabilizing activities, which have been documented in UN and international reports. He indicated that the Southern massive masses and rallies filling the squares today are not merely supportive audiences but are the decision-makers and holders of political legitimacy, determining the direction of the scene and granting the leadership its mandate.

Al-Sharafi clarified that these masses clearly express their sterling will to restore the state of South Arabia, and that the Transitional Council attentively listens to and respects this will, dealing with it as the primary determinant of any political and negotiating path. He reaffirmed the Council's readiness to work side by side with proactive forces in confronting the Houthi militias, which represent the most serious threat to regional peace and Arab national security, noting that the South has presented a successful model in combating terrorism and protecting international maritime navigation, and will remain a responsible partner in this regard.

Al-Sharafi expressed the Council's deep gratitude for the efforts of the brothers in the Arab coalition led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), asserting the Council's keenness to strengthen the existing partnership, and noted that the roles of the brothers in the Arab coalition across various military, political, and economic tracks form a solid framework for a strong and steadfast relationship between the South and the brothers in Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Al-Sharafi reaffirmed the STC's commitment to a proactive partnership with the United Nations and its readiness for close coordination with the regional and international community to prepare a stable and suitable environment for any serious and comprehensive political process, and highlighted the necessity that any political process must take into account the demands and aspirations of the people of the South Arabia.

The meeting concluded with an agreement on the importance of continuing consultation channels between the STC and the office of the UN envoy to ensure a shared understanding of the current phase's realities and the aspirations of all parties, contributing to the formulation of a realistic vision that helps advance the political process in the country.
