Mr. Abdulrahman Jalal Shaher al-Subaihi, a member of the Presidium of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Secretary-General, met today, Sunday, with Mr. Julien Harneis, the UN Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in the country.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Secretary-General welcomed Mr. Harneis, expressing appreciation for the role the United Nations plays in enhancing the humanitarian response and lauding the significant efforts of the Resident Coordinator's Office in monitoring the situation and implementing field relief programmes.
Mr. al-Subaihi affirmed that the efforts of the Resident Coordinator's Office contribute directly to alleviating the burdens on citizens in the governorates of the South, particularly given the difficult economic and service conditions the country is experiencing, and noted the importance of developing humanitarian assistance delivery mechanisms and ensuring it reaches beneficiaries efficiently.
Mr. Mokhtar Al-Yafa'i, head of the Social Affairs Authority in the Secretariat, outlined the Transitional Council's efforts in managing relief and humanitarian affairs and the mechanisms it employs to ensure support reaches eligible recipients according to clear criteria.
Dr. Saleh Basardah, head of the Legal Affairs and Human Rights Authority, affirmed the Southern Transitional Council's commitment to international conventions and human rights standards and the documentation of all efforts aimed at promoting and protecting rights and freedoms.
For his part, the UN Coordinator provided a comprehensive briefing of the overall humanitarian situation in the country, outlining the future work mechanism and programmes being prepared in coordination with local partners to address growing needs across different areas.
The meeting discussed updates on the humanitarian situation, enhancing joint coordination mechanisms, and establishing more effective procedures to ensure an improved humanitarian situation in the upcoming period.
