Mr. Abdul-Rahman Abu Zara'a al-Muharrami, Deputy President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), held a virtual meeting on Monday with Her Excellency Abdo Sharif, the United Kingdom (UK) Ambassador to Yemen.
The meeting discussed the latest domestic political and military developments amid the regional developments and their impact on the ceasefire efforts and peace prospects in the country.
The meeting discussed the depth of bilateral relations with the United Kingdom, the challenges facing Yemen in light of the ongoing exceptional circumstances, and the importance of enhancing the international role in supporting efforts to restore state institutions and maintain stability.
Mr. Al-Muharrami highlighted the importance of international support for the government and the PLC in implementing urgent economic reforms and improving public services, particularly electricity, stressing the need to resume the export of oil, which was halted due to Houthi attacks, to empower the government to meet its duties and obligations in providing basic services to citizens.
Al-Muharrami reiterated the PLC's commitment to unifying national efforts and openness to all initiatives aimed at ending the war in Yemen and building a genuine, lasting peace, and expressed gratitude for the United Kingdom’s sustained support for the country across all levels.
For her part, Ambassador Sharif reaffirmed her country's commitment to supporting both the government and the PLC in their efforts to enhance security and stability and improve economic and service conditions and noted the continuation of UK aid and assistance in humanitarian and development aspects.
