The General Secretariat of the Presidium of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) held its regular meeting today, Monday, in the capital, Aden, chaired by Mr. Mohammed Ahmed Haidara al-Shaqqi, Assistant Secretary-General of the Secretariat for Governorates Affairs and University Coordination Bodies.
The meeting discussed the recent political developments on the national and regional scene related to the cause of the people of the South during the latter half of May 2025, with a focus on the repercussions of reopening the border road in Al-Dhale'a governorate into Yemen, as well as the escalating Houthi militia attacks on several fronts and border villages in the South.
In this context, the Secretariat condemned the horrific massacre in which a woman was killed and six of her offspring were critically injured as a result of shelling by the Yemeni Houthi militia on the border village of Qurain in Al-Musaymir district in Lahj governorate, calling on local and international human rights organizations along with state human rights institutions to urgently investigate this heinous crime, which claimed the lives of innocent civilians.
Furthermore, the meeting reviewed the economic and service conditions in the governorates of the South during the month of May, 2025 and their devastating impact on the lives of citizens, the most important of which are the latest developments in the electricity situation in the capital, Aden, and the rest of the governorates of the South and the movements at various levels in an attempt to end the suffering of citizens, in addition to the health situation and seasonal fevers outbreaks and the political leadership's moves in the rapid response to provide intravenous (IV) solutions to combat these fevers throughout the governorates of the South, and the continued collapse of the local currency in the absence of permanent solutions from the concerned authorities.
The meeting touched on the organizational report focused on developing and improving the performance of the Secretariat's departments during May. In this context, certain measures and recommendations were adopted to enhance fieldwork and elevate the organizational performance level of the STC.
