The Presidency of the Southern Transitional Council held today, Monday, its periodic meeting headed by the President of the Southern Transitional Council, President Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi.
At the beginning of its meeting, the Presidency saluted the masses of the people of the south for their steadfastness and patience in the face of the attempts to subjugate them, starve, and deprive them of services and salaries, as well as the huge rise in the prices of food and consumables in conjunction with the escalating collapse of the exchange rate of the local currency, and the high rise in foreign currency value, without any move from the responsible authorities to stop these contrived and causative practices, with no concern about the suffering of the people, their living, and the humanitarian conditions.
The Presidency saluted the massive public turnout to celebrate the anniversary of Southern Land Day, as well as the peaceful mass rallies that were organized in the South, specifically in Shabwa and Hadramout valley, expressing the pride and honor of the people of the South for the achieved gains and their absolute readiness to continue the struggle to achieve the aspirations and legitimate rights represented in restoring the state on its recognized international borders before May 21, 1990.
The Presidency condemned in the strongest terms the campaigns of repression and abuse that accompanied the demonstrations of the citizens in Shabwa, in which dozens were subjected to the Brotherhood's militia fire and forced arrest.
The Presidency called for the speedy release of detainees, treatment of the wounded, and for bringing those responsible for these crimes to legal accountability, as they are war crimes with no statute of limitations.
In its meeting, which was attended by the Secretary-General of the Presidency of the Council, the governor of the capital, Aden, Ahmed Hamed Lamlas, and the ministers of the Transitional Council in the parity government, the Presidency stressed that what the South witnessed during the past days falls within the freedom of expression of citizens in order to defend their interests and their political future approved by international legislations, and to demand the implementation of the Riyadh Agreement, and there is nothing in it to provoke anyone.
The Presidency expressed its regret over some statements issued from abroad that carried matters more than they could bear, and sent wrong messages to the rest of the parties to exploit them against the democratic rights and freedoms that all the civilized peoples of the world advocate.
The Presidency stood in the face of the difficult economic conditions as a result of the collapse of the local currency against foreign currencies, stressing the need to implement the Riyadh Agreement and expedite the implementation of the economic part of the agreement, calling on the leadership of the Arab coalition to quickly take measures aimed at stopping this accelerating deterioration and its catastrophic consequences on the humanitarian situation and the livelihood of citizens and increasing pressure towards the return of the government to the capital, Aden, to fulfill its obligations and assume its responsibilities related to the implementation of the agreement.
