STC Lahj Attends Launch of UAE-Funded Solar Power Project

The head of the Local Leadership Executive Body (LLEB) of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) in Lahj governorate, Mr. Wadah al-Halmi, took part on Tuesday in the inauguration of a solar power project with a production capacity of 20 megawatts in the Bir Nasser area of Tuban district, funded by the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

M. al-Halmi lauded the UAE’s distinguished role in alleviating the suffering of residents of Lahj, affirming that the launch of the solar power project was evidence of the UAE’s unwavering support for the people of the South in general and Lahj in particular during both peace and war.

The Minister of Electricity, Eng. Mane'a bin Yameen, welcomed the major step aimed at supporting the electricity sector’s infrastructure in Lahj governorate, noting that the inauguration of the first phase of the solar power project represents a key contribution to improving the electricity service supply, reducing frequent outages, and cutting reliance on purchased power.

The Governor of Lahj, Maj. Gen. Ahmed Turki, also praised the UAE’s support for infrastructure projects in the governorate, noting that the solar power project would help resolve one of the most pressing service-related challenges and reduce electricity outages.

The inauguration was attended by the First Undersecretary of the Ministry of Electricity, Eng. Abdulhakim Fadel; the Director of the General Electricity Corporation, Mujib al-Shaabi; the Director of the Lahj Local Electricity Corporation, Munif al-Aqrabi; as well as a number of executive office directors and heads of departments within the local electricity authority.
