President Al-Zubaidi Inspects Ministry of Water and Environment and Reviews Projects to Enhance Water Resources

President Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), conducted an inspection visit to the Ministry of Water and Environment and was received by the Deputy Minister of Water and Environment, Mr. Mujahid bin Afrar, and several of the ministry's undersecretaries.

During the visit, the President held a meeting with the ministry's leadership and staff and listened to a detailed presentation from Deputy Minister bin Afrar and the undersecretaries on the efforts of the ministry and its various bodies, as well as the ongoing projects to enhance water resources and rehabilitate the infrastructure of water networks in the governorates, including the plans and strategies being pursued by the Water Resources Authority and the General Authority for Rural Water Projects to bolster water supplies and transition to the use of renewable energy systems in the water sector.

President Al-Zubaidi was briefed on the ministry's efforts in the field of environmental protection and the projects implemented in this regard, with a focus on the completion of an emergency centre to confront the risks of disasters and climate change, alongside joint plans with international partners to begin executing water desalination projects to address the water scarcity crisis, particularly in coastal cities hosting large numbers of displaced persons.

Concluding the visit, President Al-Zubaidi directed the ministry's leadership to swiftly implement special projects to purify drinking water from fluoride in Al-Dhale'a and Lahj governorates that has caused hundreds of children to suffer from osteoporosis and tooth discolouration. His Excellency stressed the necessity of an urgent response to put an end to this tragedy threatening the health of an entire generation.
