President Al-Zubaidi Arrives in Moscow and Meets with Russian Federation Minister of Foreign Affairs

President Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), arrived in the Russian capital, Moscow, on Tuesday afternoon for an official visit, during which His Excellency is set to hold high-level meetings with senior Russian officials from the government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Upon his arrival in Moscow, President Al-Zubaidi and his accompanying delegation held a bilateral meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and several senior officials from the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The meeting reviewed the historical relations with the Russian Federation and discussed ways to strengthen and develop prospects for bilateral cooperation in various fields, serving the interests of the two friendly peoples.

The meeting also discussed the latest political, economic, humanitarian, and security developments in the country, alongside the ongoing endeavors being made by the regional and international community to durably end the conflict and restore stability to the region.

In this context, President Al-Zubaidi highlighted the vital role Russia could play in supporting peace efforts aimed at restoring stability to the region through joint work and coordination with the key actors on the ground and welcomed the inclination of his Russian friends to reopen their embassy in the capital, Aden, in the near future.

President Al-Zubaidi stressed during the meeting the importance of de-escalation as a foundation for any genuine peace intentions and reiterated that safeguarding the South is a top priority for the STC and that any comprehensive political solution must be based on respecting the cause of the people of the South and their right to realize their aspirations of restoring their state.

For his part, Foreign Minister Lavrov reaffirmed his country's keenness to support efforts to bring about peace to the country and to enhance security and stability in the region, pointing to the deep-rooted historical relations that have linked the two peoples and the two friendly countries for decades.

The meeting was attended from President Al-Zubaidi's accompanying delegation by: Mr. Mohammed Al-Ghaithi, Member of the STC Presidium, Head of the Consultation and Reconciliation Commission supporting the PLC; Major General Haitham Qassem Tahir, Member of the STC Presidium, Head of the Joint Security and Military Committee, Mr. Mou'min Al-Saqqaf, Member of the STC Presidium, Head of the Local Leadership Executive Body (LLEB) of the STC in the capital, Aden; Dr. Saleh Mohsen Al-Haj, Head of the STC's Foreign Affairs Authority; Mr. Emad Mohammed, Director of the Office of the Vice Chairman of the PLC, and from the Russian side were: Mr. Alexander Grushko, Deputy Foreign Minister; Ambassador Maxim Maksimov, Deputy Director of the Middle East and North Africa Department; Ms. Yulia Lapshina, Head of the Gulf Section, Middle East and North Africa Department; Mr. Alexey Titov, Advisor, Middle East and North Africa Department; Mr. Rafael Inekeev, First Secretary, Middle East and North Africa Department.
