President Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), virtually met on Monday evening with His Excellency Steven Fagin, the United States Ambassador to Yemen.
The meeting focused on the latest humanitarian developments in the country and ways to coordinate efforts to alleviate the ongoing humanitarian suffering endured by our people due to the delay in paying salaries and the prolonged crisis in electricity power.
In this regard, President Al-Zubaidi highlighted the importance of allocating urgent support to provide the necessary fuel to operate power stations in the capital, Aden, and other liberated governorates, asserting that the current electricity situation in the capital, Aden, is unacceptable and the government must act swiftly to secure the necessary fuel to stabilize generation.
Furthermore, the meeting discussed the efforts made by the PLC, with the support of brotherly and friendly countries, to continue the path of reforms and economic recovery, and ways to coordinate efforts between central and local authorities to boost revenues and ensure their transfer to the government's public account at the Central Bank.
In a related context, the two sides reviewed what has been achieved in coordinating positions within the framework of the PLC and strengthening its cohesiveness.
In this context, President Al-Zubaidi praised the role of the USA and the quartet countries supporting the PLC, underlining the importance of backing the efforts to find a consensus-based decision-making mechanism within the PLC in order to ensure a unified front against the terrorist Houthi militia.
In a separate context, the two sides touched on the arbitrary arrests carried out by the terrorist Houthi militia against dozens of humanitarian organization workers in Sana'a and the continued detention of US embassy staff for four years.
In this regard, President Al-Zubaidi reiterated condemnation of the STC, PLC, and the government for these terrorist acts against humanitarian workers, referring to the detention campaign launched by the terrorist Houthi militias against the remaining staff of UN organizations in areas under their control and their false accusation of espionage. He considered these acts a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, once again revealing the repressive and terrorist nature of these militias.
President Al-Zubaidi urged the international community to take urgent action to pressure the Houthi militias to immediately release all abductees and ensure their safety.
For his part, Ambassador Fagin reaffirmed U.S. support for the PLC, the government, and the ongoing efforts to enact genuine reforms in state institutions, enabling the government to fulfill its duties toward citizens.
