President Al-Zubaidi Attends Opening of UNGA 80th Session

President Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), took part on Tuesday, along with a delegation headed by PLC Chairman Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, in the opening session of the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York City.

The session began with opening remarks by the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, who emphasized the need to uphold international law, maintain peace and human rights, pursue climate justice, harness technology for humanity, and strengthen the role of the United Nations in this century.

Following the Secretary-General's speech, the President of the UN General Assembly, Annalena Baerbock, officially opened the annual General Debate, which is being held this year from September 23 to 29.

The 80th UN General Assembly session brings together world leaders to discuss urgent international crises and major global challenges, foremost among them being Middle East issues.

The 80th session of the General Assembly will discuss new work plans, the governance of artificial intelligence (AI), climate change, and food crises, along with ways to promote gender equality and sustainable development, while addressing the organization's financial challenges and the evolving security situation in conflict zones around the world.
