The STC Supreme Executive Leadership Reviews Price Inspection Campaigns and Explores Ways to Boost Tax Revenues

The Supreme Executive Leadership of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) held on Saturday its regular meeting in the capital, Aden, headed by President Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi, President of the STC.

At the beginning of the meeting, the executive leadership reviewed the implementation status of the directives and decisions issued in the previous meeting, as well as the tasks accomplished across various sectors, and ratified required measures to accelerate the pace of work and overcome obstacles that hindered the completion of certain assignments.

The meeting was briefed by the head of the General Authority for Land and State Properties on steps taken by the authority’s headship regarding land-related issues between the capital, Aden, and the governorates of Abyan and Lahj in coordination with local authorities.

Furthermore, the executive leadership reviewed a report presented by Dr. Jamal Sorour, the head of the Tax Authority, outlining the institutional relationship between the Tax Authority and state institutions across governorates concerning the collection of tax revenue, in addition to identifying uncollected tax streams and entities failing to comply with procedures for collecting and transferring tax revenues to the government account and proposing an executive mechanism to enhance tax revenue, activate dormant revenue streams, and coordinate with relevant bodies to correct discrepancies.

Likewise, the leadership discussed a report from Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Salem Al-Wali, who provided a clear briefing about the stability of the strategic goods stock and the latest developments from the ongoing price control campaign, led by the ministry in coordination with the Public Prosecution and local authorities, which aims to regulate prices, monitor the market, track violations, prevent the monopolization of goods, apprehend offenders, and protect consumers.

At the end of the meeting, the Supreme Executive Leadership was briefed by the Minister of Electricity on efforts to secure an urgent fuel shipment for power plants to reduce frequent power outages, as well as the ministry’s ongoing progress within the strategic track to develop the energy sector's infrastructure, including understandings with international donors and solar energy projects funded by the brotherly United Arab Emirates (UAE).
