President Al-Zubaidi Discusses Humanitarian Developments and Economic Recovery with U.S. Chargé d'Affaires

President Aidarous Al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), virtually met on Sunday morning with Mr. Jonathan Peccia, Deputy Chief of the U.S. Mission and Acting U.S. Ambassador to Yemen.

The meeting began with a review of the latest developments in the country, particularly the humanitarian situation in the capital, Aden, and Lahij Governorate, following the heavy rains and torrential flash floods that swept through both governorates during the past days and caused extensive damage to property and infrastructure, resulting in significant humanitarian suffering for affected families.

In this context, President Al-Zubaidi outlined the efforts being made by local authorities and the Transitional Council to aid the afflicted families, highlighting the importance of urgent intervention by international organizations to provide emergency support in the areas of shelter, food, and medicine for those affected.

The meeting also touched on the range of economic reforms accomplished by the Sovereign and Local Resources Committee, the government, and the Central Bank, and the significant successes achieved on the path to economic recovery.

In this regard, the Chargé d'Affaires praised the substantial efforts made by President Al-Zubaidi, alongside the Prime Minister and the Central Bank Governor, in achieving genuine reforms within a number of revenue-generating institutions and bodies.

The two sides discussed ways to enhance joint work to continue economic reforms, ensuring a sustainable recovery that positively impacts citizens' lives.

In a separate context, the two sides discussed the efforts of the Southern security services and military forces and the tangible successes they have achieved in thwarting the smuggling of weapons shipments, drones, and narcotics shipments, which were en route to the Houthi militia.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Amr Al-Beidh, a member of the STC's Presidium and Special Representative of the President of the STC for Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Imad Mohammed, Director of the Office of the PLC Vice Chairman.
