STC Supreme Executive Leadership Discusses Price-Control Measures and Activating Market-Inspection Authorities

The Supreme Executive Leadership of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) held its regular meeting on Saturday in the capital, Aden, headed by President Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi, President of the STC and Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), in the presence of his deputy, Mr. Abdulrahman Abu Zaraa Al-Muharrami, deputy head of the STC and member of the PLC.

President Al-Zubaidi began the meeting with a speech in which he emphasized the importance of redoubling efforts at this sensitive stage that the country is going through. In the course of his speech, His Excellency reviewed a summary of the most important outcomes of the meeting of the Supreme Committee for Sovereign and Local Resources, particularly those related to efforts to enhance public revenues, improve collection and supply mechanisms to the Central Bank in the capital, Aden, and direct the relevant ministries to secure fuel for power plants.

President Al-Zubaidi stressed the need for governors and government bodies to perform their full role in activating local and sovereign resources and addressing shortcomings in their streamline collection, as they are a key pillar in supporting financial and economic stability and financing the state's obligations towards citizens, foremost of which is the payment of salaries and improving basic services.

In a related context, the meeting reviewed a detailed report submitted by the Ministry of Industry and Trade outlining price‑control measures and remedies taken to control the prices of basic commodities and activate control tools on local markets, in parallel with the noticeable improvement in the currency exchange rate to limit the unjustified rise in prices and prevent exploitation of consumer staples and citizens' livelihoods.

President Al-Zubaidi highlighted the importance of continuing price inspection campaigns, strictly enforcing legal measures against manipulators, and strengthening consumer‑protection oversight authorities, in coordination with local authorities in various governorates.

In a separate context, the meeting reviewed the work done by the Ministry of Civil Service to absorb the 17,000 jobs allocated to youth in public jobs, which was previously directed by President Aidarous Al-Zubaidi and approved by the Cabinet.

The meeting also listened to briefings from several governors on the economic and service conditions in their governorates and the challenges facing local authorities, particularly with regard to the instability of exchange rates, delayed payment of salaries, and ways to address them by boosting revenues, rationalizing expenditures, and activating the oversight role.

Furthermore, the meeting focused on the measures taken by local authorities, in coordination with public education offices and teachers' unions, to ensure the resumption and continuation of the educational process in the capital, Aden, and the rest of the governorates of the South, and to overcome the difficulties that are impeding the continuity of the educational process.

The meeting concluded by reviewing the minutes of the previous meeting, following up on what has been accomplished from the assignments issued by the meeting through the reports of the concerned authorities, and taking the appropriate action regarding them.
