President Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), received on Sunday, at his residence in the Saudi capital Riyadh, Her Excellency Catherine Corm-Kammoun, Ambassador of the Republic of France to Yemen.
The meeting discussed a range of political, economic, and humanitarian issues, particularly the worsening economic crisis in the country, which has been exacerbated by the continued halt of oil and gas exports as a result of the terrorist attacks launched by the Houthi militia on the export ports in Hadramaut and Shabwa governorates and the consequent decline in public revenues and the significant deterioration of citizens' living conditions.
In this context, President Al-Zubaidi underscored the urgent need to redouble international efforts to support the government and the PLC to revive the vital economic facilities, particularly the oil and gas sector, and secure the export ports and neutralize them from Houthi targeting.
In the meeting, they also discussed recent developments on the political front and efforts to advance a comprehensive peace process, where President Al‑Zubaidi reiterated that it is not possible to engage in political negotiations with a militia internationally designated as a terrorist organization, which poses a genuine threat to regional and global security and stability.
Furthermore, the meeting discussed the developmental and humanitarian projects funded by the Republic of France through the EU and UN agencies, highlighted the active role of Paris in supporting stability and reconstruction efforts in the liberated areas, and expressed hope that French assistance could be further expanded, particularly in the fields of energy, education, healthcare, and the empowerment of women and youth.
For her part, the French ambassador reaffirmed her country's unwavering commitment to supporting international efforts aimed at securing peace in Yemen, affirming France’s dedication to continuing humanitarian and development projects across various sectors in coordination with both the government and the PLC, and acknowledged that France recognizes the immense challenges facing the country and would persist in its efforts to assist our people and alleviate their suffering.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Mohammed Al-Ghaithi, a member of the STC's Presidium and Head of the Consultation and Reconciliation Commission (CRC) supporting the PLC; Dr. Nasser Al-Khubaji, Head of the Political Commission assisting the Presidium of the STC; Head of the Negotiations Affairs Unit, Mr. Imad Mohammed, office director of the Vice President of the PLC; and Mr. Saleh Al-Quaiti, Advisor to the Vice President of the PLC.
