President Al-Zubaidi Discusses Current Situation and Peace Efforts with EU Delegation Head

President Aidarous Qassim Al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), virtually met on Tuesday with His Excellency Gabriel Munuera Viñales, the Head of the European Union Delegation to Yemen.

The meeting, attended by several officials, discussed the latest political, humanitarian, and economic developments in Yemen and the region, as well as the implications of accelerating regional events on efforts to durably end the conflict and bring about peace in Yemen and the entire region.

During the meeting, President Al-Zubaidi outlined the challenges facing Yemen at this critical juncture, stressing the vital role of European Union countries in supporting the efforts of both the PLC and the government in normalizing the situation and promoting stability in the liberated governorates.

President Al-Zubaidi highlighted the range of challenges faced by the government to meet citizens' needs amid the economic crisis triggered by halted oil and gas exports, following the Houthi terrorist attacks that targeted oil facilities in Hadramaut and Shabwa.

President Al-Zubaidi reiterated his call for EU countries to support the government and facilitate the resumption of oil and gas exports, empower it to provide basic public services to citizens, particularly electricity, pay public sector salaries, and halt the rapid collapse of the currency exchange rate.

The meeting also discussed the prospects of bolstering the EU humanitarian and developmental support and explored ways to expand it to alleviate the suffering of citizens and spur economic recovery.

For his part, the EU Head of Delegation stressed the importance of the cohesiveness of the PLC and backing the government's efforts to carry out urgent reforms in state institutions, reiterating the EU's commitment to continue supporting UN-led efforts to achieve peace in Yemen.
