President Aidarous Al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), held on Tuesday a virtual meeting with Mr. Jonathan Peccia, Deputy Chief of the U.S. Mission and Acting U.S. Ambassador to Yemen.
The meeting reviewed the recent developments in the local arena amid the evolving regional situation and its impact on de-escalation efforts and prospects for lasting and sustainable peace.
The meeting also touched on the dire humanitarian and economic conditions across the country, particularly in the capital, Aden, and liberated governorates. In this respect, President Al-Zubaidi stressed the need to back the government and PLC in executing urgent economic reforms and tackling crises in public services and living standards with a focus on electricity shortages, currency collapse, and unpaid salaries, highlighting that international support is crucial for the government to resume oil exports, enabling it to provide citizens with basic services.
For his part, Mr. Peccia affirmed his country's position in support of peace and stability in the country and the entire region, highlighting the importance of cross-party coordination to proceed further with the implementation of reforms and provide the vital support to alleviate the humanitarian crisis.
At the end of the meeting, the two sides stressed the importance of continuing consultation and coordination and strengthening channels of communication between the PLC and the government on the one hand and the US administration and the international community on the other to advance peace and development efforts and achieve the aspirations of our people for a stable and secure future.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Nasser Al-Khubaji, Head of the Political Commission assisting the Presidium of the STC; Head of the Negotiations Affairs Unit, Mr. Mohammed Al-Ghaithi; a member of the STC's Presidium and Head of the Consultation and Reconciliation Commission (CRC) supporting the PLC, Mr. Amr Al-Beidh; a member of the STC's Presidium and Special Representative of the President of the STC for Foreign Affairs; and Mr. Imad Mohammed, office director of the Vice President of the PLC.
