President Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), met on Wednesday with Her Excellency Catherine Corm-Kammoun, Ambassador of the Republic of France to Yemen.
At the start of the meeting, President Al-Zubaidi warmly welcomed the French ambassador, lauded the strong bilateral relations with France, and expressed appreciation for ongoing French efforts to back the PLC in stabilizing the conditions and revitalizing government institutions across liberated governorates.
The meeting, which was attended by two members of the STC Presidium, including Mr. Mohammed Al-Ghaithi, Head of the Consultation and Reconciliation Commission (CRC) supporting the PLC, and Mr. Amr Al-Beidh, Special Representative of the President of the STC for Foreign Affairs, discussed the worsening humanitarian crisis amid the continued economic decline and the halt in vital oil and gas exports.
In this context, President Al-Zubaidi stressed the urgent need for increased humanitarian support from donor countries to the government to fulfill its responsibilities in providing basic services to citizens, particularly electricity, affirming that the coastal governorates are already grappling with severe power shortages in light of the acute crisis in power generation, as the country braces for scorching summer temperatures.
The meeting also touched on the importance of supporting the PLC's efforts in implementing reforms within the ministries and government institutions along with coordinating their workflow, as well as the ongoing efforts to rehabilitate the infrastructure in the capital, Aden, to create a conducive environment for the embassies and international organizations to return and conduct their work from the city of Aden.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Imad Mohammed, office director of the vice president of the PLC.
