Under the close follow-up and dedicated efforts of President Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), a key agreement was signed on Monday in Abu Dhabi, the UAE capital, to expand a 120-megawatt solar power plant to boost sustainable energy in the capital, Aden, with generous funding from the brotherly United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The agreement to add 120 megawatts of solar capacity to Aden’s existing power plant was signed by Minister of Electricity and Energy Eng. Mane'a bin Yamin, along with Governor of the capital, Aden, Mr. Ahmed Hamid Lamlas; Director General of the Public Electricity Corporation (PEC) Eng. Mujeeb Al Shaabi; and Ali Al Shimmari, Head of Strategic and Special Projects at Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar).

Following the signing, Minister of Electricity Eng. Man'ea bin Yamin and Aden Governor Ahmed Lamlas highly appreciated the UAE’s unwavering support for the energy sector in Yemen, particularly in the capital, Aden, through clean and renewable energy projects, which would alleviate the suffering of our citizens, especially during the scorching summer season.

Eng. Bin Yamin and Mr. Lamals praised the great efforts made by President Aidarous Al-Zubaidi to support the Ministry of Electricity and the local authority to overcome challenges in energy supply through strategic and sustainable projects.

In this context, Minister Bin Yamin underscored President Al-Zubaidi's ongoing efforts and high-level consultations with brothers in the UAE to develop sustainable strategic solutions for the electricity sector in the capital, Aden, and the rest of the governorates, in addition to other efforts to press the government to meet its obligations in supplying fuel to power plants to restore normal electricity generation amid chronic shortages.

The expansion project is expected to be completed in record time due to the readiness of the transmission line and will contribute to boosting the generating capacity of the electricity system in the capital, Aden, and promote reliance on renewable energy as a sustainable solution to the electricity crisis.
