President Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), met virtually today, Thursday, with the European Union ambassadors, headed by the Ambassador of the European Union to Yemen, H.E. Gabriel Monera Viñales.
In the meeting, which was attended by ambassadors from 24 EU countries, President Al-Zubaidi briefed the EU ambassadors on the recent developments in the humanitarian situation in light of the country's ongoing economic collapse and its repercussions on citizens in the capital, Aden, and the liberated governorates.
President Al-Zubaidi stressed the urgent need for intervention by the regional and international community, in general, and the EU, in particular, to enhance humanitarian support for Yemen to enable it to overcome the current circumstances and improve living conditions that have surpassed the endurance and patience of citizens.
Politically, the meeting discussed the latest developments related to the UN-led political process to durably bring peace to the country. In this regard, President Al-Zubaidi reiterated his support for all regional and international efforts aimed at ending the conflict and bringing about peace in the region, noting that talk of peace in the face of ongoing Houthi escalation in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab Strait is no longer feasible and contradicts the facts on the ground.
President Al-Zubaidi pointed out, in the same context, that the Houthi militias continue to build up and mobilize for a new phase of escalation both on land and at sea, noting that the mobilizing operations are directed towards Shabwah, Al-Dhale'a, Yafe'a, and Abyan, in parallel with their ongoing attacks against commercial ships in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab.
In turn, the EU ambassadors reaffirmed their countries' positions in support of the PLC and their backing for the efforts made to implement real reforms in government institutions, enabling them to fulfill their obligations in providing services, halting the economic decline, and normalizing the situation in all liberated governorates.
The EU ambassadors expressed their appreciation for the STC, led by President Al-Zubaidi, for its positive engagement with the UN-led efforts to end the war and bring about peace in the country and the entire region.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Saleh Muhsen al-Haj, Director of the Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Authority in the STC, Mr. Salem Thabet al-Awlaqi, Head of the National Southern Media Authority (NSMA) and official spokesman of the STC, and Mr. Imad Mohammed Ahmed, Director of the Office of the Vice President of the PLC.
