President Aidarous Qassem Al-Zoubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), inaugurated the transfer of inspection procedures for commercial ships from the port of Jeddah in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the port of Aden.
This came when his excellency chaired on Thursday a meeting at the Ministry of Transport in the presence of the Ministers of Civil Service and Social Affairs, the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Mr. Badr Muawin, Secretary-General of the Local Council of the capital, Aden, Mr. Abu Bakr Salem Ba-Obaid, head of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the capital, Aden, and heads of relevant government agencies.
President Al-Zoubaidi confirmed in the meeting the readiness of the port of Aden to receive all local and international shipping lanes, directing the competent authorities in the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the free zone, and the security services to ease the difficulties facing merchants and businessmen from various governorates and to provide them with all facilities for importing through the ports of Aden.
President Al-Zoubaidi stressed the importance of upgrading the technical aspects of the work of port-related institutions, most notably the Gulf of Aden Ports Corporation, the Customs Authority, the Tax Authority, and Free Zone Security, which contribute to the smooth entry of ships and the unloading of their cargo in the port.
In the meeting, President Al-Zoubaidi appreciated the exerted efforts of the official brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, along with the Ministry of Transport, in completing arrangements to transfer inspection procedures for ships arriving at the ports of Aden from the port of Jeddah, in a step that would enhance the port’s activity and reduce the cost of cargo insurance.
In turn, the Minister of Transport, Dr. Abdul-Salam Humaid, expressed his deep thanks and gratitude for all the efforts of President Al-Zoubaidi in following up on the procedures for transferring the ship inspection mechanism to the port of Aden and advancing development efforts in the capital, Aden, and the liberated governorates, affirming that the Ministry of Transport is doing its best to provide an incentivizing environment for merchants and importers via the port of Aden and the other ports.
