President Al-Zubaidi Receives Director of FCDO Middle East and North Africa

President Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Vice-Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), received at his residence in New York City Mr. Stephen Hickey, Director of Middle East and North Africa at the Foreign and Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).

The meeting reviewed the latest developments in the political and humanitarian situation in the country and the prospects for peace-building based on the efforts made by the countries of the region and the UN aimed at ending the war and establishing a just and lasting peace.

President Al-Zubaidi expressed his thanks for the positive role of the UK and its positions in supporting our people and the efforts of the PLC and the power-sharing government, reiterating that our people are counting on a greater role by the five countries in supporting endeavours and efforts to end the war and bring peace to the country.

In his conversation with Ambassador Hickey, President Al-Zubaidi noted the paramount importance of having a clear peace plan that addresses the pivotal issues of the conflict, at the forefront of which is the cause of our people in the South, highlighting the need for the cause of the South to be present in the various phases of the political process as it is the key to the solution and the gateway to sustainable peace.

For his part, Ambassador Hickey reiterated his government's support for efforts to bring about peace in Yemen, the cohesiveness of the PLC, and the government's task to assume its responsibilities.
