President Aidaroos Al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Vice-Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), received on Sunday evening the Swedish envoy to Yemen, Mr. Peter Semneby, and Mr. Eric Shant, Deputy Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The meeting discussed the latest developments in the political process in the country in light of the talks that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been conducting with the Houthi militia to reach a roadmap to end the conflict and bring peace to the country, under the sponsorship of the United Nations.
In this context, President Al-Zubaidi reiterated the support of the PLC and the STC for all political, regional, and international endeavors aimed at ending the war and achieving stability, highlighting the importance of reaching a comprehensive political process that takes into account the facts of history and the realities on the ground and includes the central issues in the conflict, foremost of which is the cause of the people of the South, for which the various parties in the PLC have agreed to set a special framework in the political process from the very beginning.
The meeting, too, reviewed the humanitarian efforts made by the government of the Kingdom of Sweden to aid our people in their ordeal as a result of the war, as President Al-Zubaidi highly appreciated the proactive role of the Kingdom of Sweden in hosting six donor conferences for Yemen since the outbreak of the war in 2015.
The meeting touched on the security aspect, and in this context, the Swedish envoy affirmed his country's keenness as a member of the European Union to consolidate relations with the Gulf states and Yemen and to intensify security cooperation in the fields of combating terrorism, maritime security, and solving the issue of the influx of African refugees to our country, noting that the countries of the European Union will discuss all of these issues at a conference of foreign ministers of the European Union with the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in Muscat at the end of this year, 2023.
To the end of the meeting, Mr. Semneby reiterated the support of the Kingdom of Sweden for all political efforts aimed at ending the war and bringing peace to our country under the umbrella of the United Nations.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Imad Mohammad, Director of the Office of the Vice-Chairman of the PLC, and Mr. Saleh Al-Qaiti, Advisor to the Vice-Chairman of the PLC.
