President Al-Zubaidi receives EU Ambassador

President Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi, the president of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and the vice chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), met today, Wednesday, with the head of the European Union Delegation to Yemen Ambassador Gabriel Monuera Viñals.

They discussed the latest developments in the political, humanitarian, military, and security situation in our country, regional and international endeavours aimed at ending the war and bringing peace to the entire region, and the role played by the European Union Delegation in supporting the efforts of the PLC and the government to revive the economic situation and alleviate the humanitarian suffering of our people.

President Al-Zubaidi reiterated his firm position in supporting peace and consolidating the endeavours of the UN special envoy to end the conflict in our country and to launch a comprehensive peace process, underscoring the centrality of the cause of the people of the South in any upcoming solution.

Furthermore, President Al-Zubaidi stressed the importance of entrusting the negotiating team approved by the PLC to conduct the designated tasks in the negotiations as a representative of the various forces within the framework of the PLC.

For his part, Ambassador Viñals reiterated the European Union's firm support for the endeavours to end the war and bring peace to our country and reaffirmed standing by the PLC and the power-sharing government in their efforts to achieve economic reforms, stop the deterioration of the economy, improve services, and alleviate humanitarian suffering in light of the difficult living conditions that face our people.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Amr Ali Al-Beidh, member of STC's Presidium, the Special Representative of President Al-Zubaidi, Mr. Imad Mohammed, the office director of the Vice-Chairman of the PLC, and from the EU side: Mr. Mohammed Ayoub, political officer at the EU delegation to Yemen, and Mr. Milos Tosic, political officer at the EU delegation in the United Arab Emirates.
