Youth and Student Department in the General Secretariat of Presidency of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), on Tuesday, commemorated, the anniversary of the Southern Sports Day, June 14, by performing a sportive festival at Ali Asa'ad Muthanna Hall in the capital, Aden, with a slogan of (Jointly, we can boost and promote Southern Sports) under the patronage of the president Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), Deputy head of the Presidential Leadership Council, and in the presence of Mr. Fadl Al-Jaadi, Deputy Secretary-General.
At the festival, which was held under the supervision of the Youths and Sports Office in the capital, Aden, Mr. Moamen Al-Saqqaf, Head of the Youth and Student Department in the General Secretariat, delivered a speech in which he welcomed the attendees, referring to reviving of the Southern Sports Day takeing place to memorialize the deep-rooted sportive history in State of the South, based on the immense attention of the STC and the president Aidarous Al-Zubaidi with his full support for sports and its positive healthy, social and economic dimensions.
Mr. Al-Saqqaf stated that the Youth and Student Department aims to promote sports, after the deteriorative situation it has been reaching since 1990, and such different sports are a real opportunity of bringing various categories of the community together, reminding of the noble values, underpinning achievements of the southern sports, and emphasizeing on fulfilling aspirations of athletes.
The festival was attended by Mr. Arafat Mohammed Ali, Director General of Youths and Sports Office in the capital Aden, and Captain Sharaf Mahfouz, head of Youth and Student Committee in the National Assembly of the STC, in addition to several southern sporting celebrities, club officials, unions, and sportive personalities.
The festival began with reciting verses from the Holy Quran, next, the Southern National Anthem, after that the participating unions and sportive games were taking part at high levels.
The festival activities launched with competitions in various sports.
The festival concluded with honouring the winners, and the Youth and Student Department honored several of the southern sportive personalities from the capital Aden, for their contributions to sports in the South.
