President Aidarous Qassem Al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and Vice-Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), stressed the importance of adopting sustainable solutions to address the water crisis in the country during his meeting on Sunday in the capital, Aden, with the Deputy Minister of Water and Environment, Mr. Mujahid bin Afrar.
President Al-Zubaidi emphasized the need to develop long-term strategic plans based on sound management of water resources and the promotion of modern technologies and the possibility of launching desalination projects and the importance of rainwater harvesting schemes, alongside enhancing coordination between the ministry and international partners.
The meeting discussed a range of challenges facing the water sector, with a focus on water scarcity, increasing demand, the impacts of climate change, and weak infrastructure across the governorates.
The President was briefed by the deputy minister on the ministry's efforts to develop solutions for water scarcity and bolster water resources in both urban and rural areas, as well as future programs aimed at improving the efficiency and sustainability of the water sector, lauding the leadership's support and interest in this vital sector.
President Al-Zubaidi received a briefing from bin Afrar on his participation in the Climate Conference held in Brazil, including discussions and perspectives related to water and climate change issues and opportunities to leverage international expertise in this field.
